It all happened two Decembers ago. After the first year of the pandemic, people decided there was going to be a personal change in the new year. For some, that change meant adopting what has become known as “Dry January,” an abstention of all things alcoholic for 31 days. After a significant number of friends announced their commitment to this endeavor (canceling plans with us), my husband announced he was going to dedicate the next 31 days to creating fun cocktails. Hence, “Wet January” in our household was born.
Two years later, we are almost through January of 2022. I must admire the drive and commitment of my husband. You see, things changed for us this year. We contacted Covid. Thankfully it was a mild case as our family has gotten all the vaccinations and boosters. At times, the last thing in the world I wanted to do was think about my next post. But he powered through posting daily and built a community of folks who became engaged on Facebook and Instagram (@ediblechow). And it’s funny, he’s not someone who adores social media and often goes weeks without posting the rest of the year. Usually he’s a foodie (he loves to cook) and a family kind of guy when he does.
Here are 27 days of cocktails (self-admitting that I didn’t try all of them and special thanks to Malai Kitchen, Flora Luna Apothecary and Primos Mexican Kitchen for adding to the mix):
My seven favorites (I like fruit, but not sweet):
Day 1: Aviation
Day 4: Blackberry Smash
Day 5: 2017 Sea Smoke Ten
Day 8: Summer Sour
Day 21: Amaretto Sour
Day 25: Raspberry Martini
Day 28: 2018 Daou Pinot Noir, 2015 Skipstone Oliver’s Blend, 2015 Domaine Ponsot Corton Grand Cru ‘Cuvee du Bourdon’, 2018 Stags’ Leap the Leap Cabernet Sauvignon, 2019 J Cage El Caron Pinot Noir, 2012 Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé
Cheers to him and the three days left in the month of January.
