It’s amazing how one wine can bring back memories of eventful wine country trip exactly one decade later. It’s been ten years since I was invited by a friend and St. Supéry ambassador, to take my caravan of 12 women to and come visit. On that visit, we learned that a tour bus won’t make it up a very steep hill and that hiking was the only path to a glass (or few) of Dollarhide Ranch Reserve Sauvignon Blanc, a picnic and a spectacular view.
Oh, how things have changed since then then. Today, you would never find me bringing a caravan of twelve people to wine country nor is it likely we’d be able to try to take that tour bus up the hill. But I’d still walk to the top of that steep hill, partake in that view and enjoy that great wine ten years later.
Memories of St Supéry Dollarhide Ranch

I was brought down memory lane with a sample kit and virtual tasting from St Supéry Vineyards and Winery. From April 30 to June 4, each Thursday the winery is hosting the Great Sustainable Seafood Tour featuring sustainable seafood, seafood purveyors, aquaculture specialists and guest chefs in a virtual format. While they focused on a different Sauvignon Blanc that night, it was interesting to see CEO Emma Swain talk about the winery and the vineyards including Dollarhide Ranch. Estate Chef Tod Kawachi did a hands on demonstration of how to prepare citrus cured salmon.
Memories of St Supéry Dollarhide Ranch
St. Supéry Estate Vineyards and Winery is a sustainably farmed, certified Napa Green Land and a Napa Green winery located in Rutherford in Napa Valley. The winery, which was founded in 1982, focuses on Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varieties. Dollarhide Ranch is the source of St. Supéry’s distinctive estate Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
So why was this wine so memorable? It just lasts in the glass with complexity, character, depth and layers that won’t quit. I tasted stone fruit, pineapple, citrus and notes of flowers and herbs with a great minerality.
Almost one decade later, this Sauvignon Blanc still stands on its own – with or without a spectacular view of a vineyard, a hike up a hill, a picnic with spectacular views and a million laughs with friends. But given a choice, I can’t wait for when my experiences are not virtual in nature.
