A Celebration of Friends with J Vineyards & Winery: The Perfect Aperitif

The Perfect Aperitif

The magnum of J Vineyards & Winery Cuvée 20 Brut NV and the star gazing guide arrived just in time for Fall – unless you live in Texas.  I knew I had to make a choice.  Stargazing is noble and tasting the stars under the stars is a fabulous idea unless it is still 100 degrees in September.

My husband and I were hosting a group collectively referred to as the #Dallaswineaux, a wine loving group of diverse individuals.  Some with wine certifications, some who write about wine, some wine collectors – but all with the shared love of the grape and a collective passion to have fun, not take themselves too seriously and enjoy the journey. Earlier last year, we had purchased a cellar from an individual.  We had already consumed the Old World wines and now it was time for the New World selections.

What better kick off the evening of enjoyment with a great sparkler?

The J Vineyard magnum was the perfect beginning for our group of 11 to begin the tasting.  The blend of 55% Chardonnay, 43% Pinot Noir, 2% Pinot Meunier opened up a celebration of friends and fun.  I tasted lemon peel, honeysuckle, apple, citrus, brioche, almonds and ginger.  It is a great sparkling wine and perfect opening to a party – especially if you are going into a tasting of big red wines afterward.

A Little About J Vineyards & Winery

J Vineyards & Winery is a California winery located in the Russian River Valley AVA of Sonoma County, California and includes nine vineyards located on 254 acres. I had the chance to meet with the former management team of J Vineyards & Winery back in 2013 and a few things have changed.  Judy Jordan sold the winery E&J Gallo in April 2015.

Sometimes you have to do a little improvising and this was a perfect way to enjoy this great magnum of wine popping a cork, gathering friends and enjoying a great sparkling.
